DARLINGHURST & WOOLLOOMOOLOO

These two inner-city neighbourhoods are located to the east of the city centre. Woolloomooloo is the harbour side area in the valley between the city centre and Kings Cross and is home to a naval base while Darlinghurst is the area south of William Street with a diverse atmosphere that encompasses everything from prostitution to quaint Victorian architecture. The Kings Cross end of William Street can feel a little threatening at times, however this area is a convenient area to base yourself and is within walking distance of both Kings Cross and the city centre.

GLEBE

Glebe is a quiet neighbourhood with a sizable student population a short distance west of the city centre. Although it isn’t served by Sydney’s rail system, there are plenty of buses and the SLR tram stops here.

KINGS CROSS

Kings Cross is backpacker central with loads of hostels, particularly along quiet tree-lined Victoria Street. Many of the hostels in Kings Cross have rooftop sundecks with amazing city views. The neighbourhood has plenty of cheap eats; great transport connections and is only a 15-minute walk from the heart of the city. However the Cross is also Sydney’s red light district and some people may not feel comfortable walking around alone at night among the brothels and sex shops.
