Port Macquarie is a popular holiday destination for Sydneysiders and is also popular with backpackers who stop over to take advantage of the cheaper prices on adventure activities compared to destinations further north. Although much of Port Macquarie feels like a featureless Australian suburb, there are some good beaches and it is well situated for exploring nearby lakes and rainforest.
