Fort Scratchley

Built in the 1880s, this former defence post now contains a military and maritime museum. The fort offers good views of both the harbour and city centre. There is an extensive system of tunnels linking the complex.

Hunter Wetlands Centre

More than 170 bird species have been recorded in this 45-hectare wildlife sanctuary in the suburbs. There are hiking trails and canoes can be rented.
