Tours & transport

Greyhound (tel 1300 473 946 (1300 GREYHOUND)) buses operate between Darwin and Kakadu National Park with stops at Jabiru and other areas of interest. The bus service is a little like a mini-tour and is included in some of Greyhound’s bus passes.

Other options include a wide range of tours that can be booked from Darwin including a good selection catering to backpackers. Tour prices range from $460 for a three-day tour to more than $1000 for a five-day 4WD safari. A day trip from Darwin starts at around $100, although one day isn’t long enough to properly experience Kakadu.

Kakadu Dreams (tel 1800 813 266) is one of the most popular tour companies with backpackers. They have three-day tours for $460 and five-day tours for $700. Other tour companies running tours from Darwin include AAT Kings (tel 1300 556 100), Aussie Adventures (tel 1300 721 365), and Top End Escapes (tel 1300 736 892).
