Gold Coast

Coming & Going

Many people travel to the Gold Coast via Brisbane, but the coast also has its own international airport at Coolangatta, plus bus links to destinations on the east coast.

AIR

Although the Gold Coast is close enough to make Brisbane’s airport a convenient gateway, Coolangatta Airport at the southern end of the coast has frequent flights from most major destinations in Australia.

Surfside buses stop on the Gold Coast Highway outside Coolangatta Airport, and they also operate an airport shuttle service from both Brisbane and Coolangatta Airports with drop-offs to hostels and hotels along the Gold Coast. The shuttle costs around $18, so it’s a much better idea to walk five minutes to the highway and catch the local bus (route 700 to Surfers Paradise) for just $4.10.

If you’re travelling from Brisbane Airport, the Airtrain operates twice an hour with a connecting bus to Surfers Paradise. It costs $25.80 from the airport to Robina station or $42 with a connecting shuttle bus to your hostel.

Alternatively, Coachtrans (tel (07) 3238 4700) run buses between Brisbane Airport and the Gold Coast that drop you off at the door of your hostel. The one-way fare is $39.

BUS

Greyhound buses stop at Coolangatta and Surfers Paradise. In Coolangatta, buses stop at the Coolangatta Transit Centre on the corner of Griffith and Warner Streets. The bus terminal in Surfers Paradise is at the corner of Beach and Cambridge Roads. In Coolangatta buses stop on Warner Street, between Chalk and Lanham Streets.

TRAIN

A train line runs through the Gold Coast Hinterland with stations at Nerang and Robina. Although it isn’t on a main interstate rail line, there are frequent Citytrain services into Brisbane. Bus 745 goes to Surfers Paradise from Nerang Station and bus 750 runs from Robina Station.
