Winton

This small town is best known as the place where Banjo Patterson wrote the ballad Waltzing Matilda, which was first performed at the North Gregory Hotel on 6 April 1895. Along with Longreach, Winton claims to be the home of Qantas (the airline’s first flight was between the two towns).
