South Australia’s third-largest city is an industrial town that is not really worth the detour. Whyalla’s main attraction is the OneSteel Whyalla Steelworks, which dominates the town.

OneSteel Whyalla Steelworks

OneSteel Whyalla Steelworks is the city’s largest employer and visitors can take tours of the steel-making plant. This is Australia’s longest-running steelworks tour. Tours depart from the Tourist Information Centre on Lincoln Highway.

Whyalla Maritime Museum

This maritime museum features the HMAS Whyalla, Australia’s largest permanently landlocked ship, which was the first ship to be built at the Whyalla shipyards. The museum has exhibits of the city’s ship building industry and the WWII warships that were constructed here.
