Swan Hill

Swan Hill is the main town between Echuca and Mildura. There’s not much choice of budget accommodation and not many backpackers stay overnight here. However you may want to break your journey here if you’re driving a long distance.

Coming & Going

V/line (tel 13 22 32) has trains to Bendigo and Melbourne and buses to Albury, Echuca and Mildura. Both buses and trains leave from the station on Railway Avenue.

Sights

Swan Hill Pioneer Settlement

Australia’s first open-air museum is also Swan Hill’s leading attraction. This recreated pioneer village showcases life on the Murray between 1830 and 1930. The Pioneer Settlement features heritage streetscapes and cruises on the Murray aboard the PS Pyap.
