St Helena Island

St Helena Island is Queensland’s version of Alcatraz. This prison island is interesting although some of the trips are quite touristy with re-enactments of historical events in the same style you would expect from a tacky theatre restaurant.

Both day and night trips are available with ghost tours at night. Day trips cost $69, nighttime ghost tours $90. A B Sea Cruises (tel (07) 3396 3994) run the trips from Manly in Brisbane’s southeast to St Helena Island. Manly is easily reached by train on the Cleveland line.
