Located west of Newcastle, this small town is closer to the Hunter Valley than the other New England towns further to the north and the frequent Trains from Newcastle make it accessible enough for a day-trip. Scone is one of the most important towns in New South Wales’ horse breeding and racing industry and calls itself ‘the horse capital of Australia’.

Although it is accessible by bus from Sydney, Newcastle and the Hunter Valley, the train is the best way to visit Scone. Scone lies at the western terminus on the Hunter line on the CityRail network and the frequent trains put it almost within commuting distance of Newcastle.
