Mornington Peninsula

The Mornington Peninsula, southeast of Melbourne, has a variety of beaches – both

sheltered swimming beaches and surf beaches – and is a popular weekend getaway for

Melburnians. Although part of Melbourne’s metropolitan area it maintains a separate

identity and a laidback holiday atmosphere.

Sorrento is the most popular town on the Peninsula for backpackers. Apart from being the

only town in the area with a hostel, it is also a charming town that’s far enough from

Melbourne to be considered a separate destination.
