This small outback town is considered the major town in central Queensland and it has a couple of impressive attractions considering its diminutive population.
Longreach was the original home of Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Service (now known as Qantas), and the company was headquartered here until 1930.

Greyhound (tel 1300 473 946) buses connect Longreach to Brisbane, Mount Isa and Rockhampton and stop at the Outback Travel Centre at 115 Eagle Street.
The train station on Landsborough Highway serves the twice-weekly Spirit of the Outback service to Rockhampton.

Aviation buffs and plane spotters will love this museum at Longreach Airport, which is home to the original Qantas hangar as well as a replica of the first Qantas aircraft. The museum is the only place in the world where you can take a tour of a fully equipped Boeing 747.

Outback Queensland’s biggest and best attraction is an outstanding museum dedicated to the pioneers of the early outback. It is well worth the visit – some people even go as far as saying that this museum alone is worth the trip to Longreach.
