With around 50,000 people, Lismore is the main town in the far north of the state and it’s where people from neighbouring towns come to get things done. Lismore has a university and a much more sophisticated air to it than most other regional towns of a similar size – probably due to the alternative/new-age influence of nearby places like Byron Bay and Nimbin.

There are public showers in the transit centre that cost $2.
Lismore is accessible by both train and bus. The Train station is on Union Street with trains to Brisbane, Sydney and Murwillumbah.
Some Brisbane-Sydney buses bypass Lismore so check first if you want to get off here. Most buses, including Kirklands and Greyhound Australia, stop at the Transit Centre at the corner of Magellen and Molesworth Streets.
