Katherine

Katherine is the most popular stop on the highway between Darwin and Alice Springs. The town is nothing special, but it’s a good place to base yourself if you want to explore the nearby Katherine Gorge.

Coming & going

BUS & COACH

Greyhound (tel 1300 473 946 (1300 GREYHOUND)) coaches travelling between Alice and Darwin stop at the BP service station on Katherine Terrace (Stuart Highway) opposite the tourist information centre. Buses go to Alice Springs, Broome and Darwin.

TRAIN

The Ghan stops in Katherine en route from Adelaide to Darwin. The station is 8km outside town on the Victoria Highway. Travel North (tel (08) 8971 9999 or 1800 089 103) run a shuttle bus between the train station and the town centre, which costs $12. The bus departs from the BP service station.
