The Grampians is a rugged area popular with rock climbers and hikers. There is a multitude of hiking trails leading to various mountains, lakes, canyons and rock formations.
This is a great spot for seeing native wildlife in their natural habitat. Kangaroos and koalas are plentiful and the park is covered with colourful wildflowers between August and November.
The Grampians National Park is known as Gariwerd to the local Aboriginal people and is a place of great cultural significance with more than 100 documented rock art sites.
Halls Gap is a small town near the Wonderland Range area of the park, which is a popular base for visitors to the Grampians.
This national park information centre also features excellent displays about Aboriginal culture.

The Grampians are difficult to explore properly without your own transport, but there is a daily V/line (tel 13 22 32) bus between Halls Gap and Melbourne. Buses stop opposite the newsagency.

The Brambuk Cultural Centre is an excellent place to learn and experience the culture of the Koori communities of southwest Victoria. You can arrange tours of the rock art sites from the centre.

The Grampians Mountain Adventure Company (tel 0427 747 047) runs rock climbing and abseiling trips in the Grampians National Park. Prices start at $60 for an introductory half-day rock climb and abseil. A full day rock climbing and abseiling excursion costs $110.
This camping & picnic area is a good spot for viewing kangaroos and it’s very popular with people driving around the park.
Mount Victory Road, Grampians National Park
There are some excellent hiking trails around the Grampians. These include popular short walks in the Wonderland Range area near Halls Gap as well as longer overnight hikes.
This easy walk follows a stream to Beehive Falls. It departs from Beehive Falls car park on Roses Gap Road.
You can start this trail from either Brambuk Backpackers or Tim’s Place. It is a challenging hike to Boronia Peak, where there are nice views of Wonderland Range.
This is one of the most popular short walks and it can get very crowded at busy times. It is a steep, but short and relatively easy, walk.
This difficult half-day hike starts and finishes at Rosea campground on Mount Victory Road. It offers stunning views from the summit of Mount Rosea.
The Wonderland Loop is a popular half-day walk that starts and finishes in Halls Gap. It offers brilliant views and visits many of the park’s main attractions including Grand Canyon, the Pinnacle, Splitters Falls and Venus Baths. This walk is a good option if you’ve only got a day to see the park and it is a relatively easy walk for novice hikers.
