Byron Bay

Coming & going

AIR

Byron Bay is located between Ballina and Coolangatta Airports. Ballina Airport has flights to Sydney and regional destinations in NSW while the busier Coolangatta Airport has flights to most parts of Australia as well as some international flights. There are airport buses that connect Byron Bay with both airports. These include Airlink (tel (02) 6684 3232); Airport Transfers Byron Bay (tel (02) 6620 9200); Byron easyBus (tel (02) 6685 7447) and Steve’s Tours Airport Express (tel 0414 660 031).

TRAIN

Byron Bay is on the Sydney-Brisbane train line with two daily trains in each direction. The train station is on Jonson Street in the centre of town.

BUS & COACH

Because Byron Bay is off the main highway some coaches don’t stop here, but most on the Brisbane-Sydney route do. Greyhound coaches stop outside Shop 2, 84 Jonson Street, Byron Bay (next to Noodle Box) and most other coaches stop near the information centre on Jonson Street outside the train station.

Brisbane 2 Byron (tel 1800 626 222) operates a minibus service between Brisbane and Byron Bay. The trip takes two hours and costs $30.

There are several companies offering day trips to Nimbin, these trips range from a simple shuttle bus to tours that stop by at a number of local attractions. Because of competition, there are some good deals available. See the Nimbin section for more information.
