Eating & Drinking

Finding cheap eats in Brisbane is not difficult. There is a wide range of authentic and tasty international food, as well as the standard fast food restaurants and cheap pub meals. One of the best places to go for an inexpensive but quality meal is in Chinatown, where you can get great Asian food. Pho B (28 Duncan Street, Fortitude Valley) in the centre of Chinatown has great Vietnamese. For a real deal, check out Fat Boys (323 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley) for all day breakfast and other pub fare for bargain prices. Pizza is another cheap and ubiquitous staple in Brisbane, with many places staying open late in the city centre.
Open air food courts are a good place to grab a quick bite on the cheap. The Myer Centre in the city or the or the Riverside Centre in the northeast section of the city are both packed with options for a leisurely lunch. Eating out can get quite expensive in Brisbane, so the best bet is cooking at your hostel.

Supermarkets in the city centre include Coles in Queen’s Plaza, (corner Adelaide, Edward & Queen Streets, Brisbane) and Woolworths (256 Queen Street, Brisbane).

Hostels often have special dinner deals or barbecues that can be a great deal and are worth it if the closest supermarket is too far away to walk to. It is always cheaper to buy your own alcohol in a bottle shop, but for the atmosphere there are plenty of bars and pubs in the city for a beer or two. Irish Murphy’s (175 George Street, Brisbane) is a popular spot, as is the Zi Bar (308 Edward Street, Brisbane) and the Belgian Beer Café (corner Edward & Mary Streets, Brisbane).
