Shute Harbour Road in the centre of Airlie Beach has many eating options from fast food to fine dining.
There are a couple of fish and chip shops; the one on the Esplanade is popular for lunchtime waterfront eating. A few of the hostels in town have on site restaurants that are a convenient option and sometimes have great deals. The restaurant and bar at Beaches (356-Shute Harbour Road, Airlie Beach) is almost always packed around dinner time. For a healthy breakfast or lunch, there are some juice bars with light lunch options such as Wisdom near the entrance to the Lagoon, which has wraps and great juices.
There is good pizza in Airlie, too. Often, Beagle Pizza (293 Shute Harbour Road, Airlie Beach) and the pizza restaurant in Magnum’s (Shute Harbour Road, Airlie Beach) compete with Domino’s (Shute Harbour Road, Airlie Beach) by offering huge bargains. Walk through town and check them all out, it only takes a few minutes.
Although it is a party town, the eating options at Airlie Beach shut down early and about the only places open late are McDonalds and KFC next to Magnums hostel.
There is a small supermarket in the centre of town, but for cheaper prices, head to Cannonvale where you’ll find Coles (corner Island Drive & Shute Harbour Road, Cannonvale) and Woolworths (corner Paluma & Shute Harbour Roads, Cannonvale).
Drinks are expensive even with the deals and discounts offered by hostels. There is a drive-through bottle shop across from the YHA on Shute Harbour Road and a bigger bottle shop in Cannonvale where you can stock up on beer, but many hostels have a no BYO policy. Otherwise, hit happy hour before you go out.
